Camping at Cataloochee Group Camp near Waynesville

Public campground · Waynesville · 3 campsites · 3 group

A forested campground near trout fishing, hiking, and mountain biking.

About this campground

The campground is a good jumping-off point for classic Smokies pursuits: hiking the nearby Boogerman Trail (an almost 6-mile loop that overlaps the Caldwell Fork Trail and passes groves of old-growth forest), trout fishing in remote creek stretches, and wildlife viewing Cataloochee is one of the places in the park where elk are commonly seen in spring and fall. The valley also contains several preserved historic structures, including the Palmer House museum, so history-minded groups can mix cultural stops with outdoor time.

“It is important to know that no water available at the group campsite, and the campground host was unwilling to say if the water in the other campground was potable. Looking over my pre-trip information, there was no notice about this lack of water. ”
