Williwaw Campground sits in the Portage Valley just outside Girdwood, a short drive south of Anchorage along the Seward Highway. The site fronts Williwaw Creek and is immediately adjacent to the Williwaw Salmon Viewing Area, where translucent creek pools fill with spawning salmon in August an easy, low-effort viewing opportunity right from the campground.

Length limits vary by campsite.

“Willawaw is our very favorite place in Alaska to camp! The hosts this year have been the very best! Always cleaning and checking on campsites. So nice to talk to. ”
“The camphosts, Zac and Jesse, are amazing managers of the campground. They not only go above and beyond the basics, they are friendly and helpful. Hopefully, they will return next year or be somewhere like Quartz Creek where their impact is even greater. ”
“The person working as the campground manager was great! She was very helpful, accommodating and knowledgeable of the area. That made our stay so much nicer.”

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.
Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (7,986 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
