The lake itself is a 22,000-acre recreation reservoir carved through the Ozark Mountains from the North Fork River, so the setting alternates between open, windy basins good for sailing and tucked-in coves better suited to water-skiing, fishing and calmer water sports. On land, marked trails and the surrounding public lands invite hikers, wildlife viewers and photographers to follow seasonal changes in the Ozark terrain; in-season hunting and OHV opportunities exist on adjacent public tracts.
