Lakes Basin Campground sits at about 6,445 feet among firs and aspens along Gray Eagle Creek on the Gold Lakes road north of Graeagle, reachable via Forest Road 24 off State Route 89 (roughly a 7-mile drive up the single-lane Gold Lakes Road from the highway). The footprint of an old mining community is still visible here weathered stonework and a set of carved steps that lead into a deep pool of Gray Eagle Creek give the loop a quiet, historic character.

“Quiet, peaceful campground with so many wonderful hiking options straight from the campground. The highway is nearby but you don't hear a lot of highway noise because there are not a ton of cars. Stunning natural beauty all around!”
“As always, our stay at Lakes Basin was fabulous! The campground is always well maintained. The hosts are beyond delightful (and so knowledgeable). And, you just can’t beat the pond!”

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.
Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (3,511 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
