Camping at Whitehorse Campground near Bucks Lake

Public campground · Bucks Lake · 19 campsites

A forested campground near fishing, and hiking. Most campsites have no hookups, and RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

Whitehorse Campground sits at about 5,500 feet amid a stand of firs and pines on the north side of the Sierra near Bucks Lake, where a small creek from the campground drains toward the reservoir. The immediate area is threaded with trails: a short walk brings you down to Bucks Lake for fishing, boating, and canoeing, and a hiking route from the campground links into the Buck Wilderness and the Pacific Crest Trail, which runs adjacent to the sites.

“The campground is very nice, with corrals and restrooms etc. The trails were not cleared and there were alot of trees down. Beautiful area.”

Mary M 4 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“The campground was clean, quiet and well maintained. Other than no bear box at our particular camp site everything was about as good as it could get.”

How far ahead to book Whitehorse Campground

For June weekends, book about 87 days ahead. Three in four June Friday and Saturday arrivals were booked later than that, and half were booked 32 days or less before arrival. Past timing is guidance, not a guarantee of what is open now.

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (1,184 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
