Blue Lake Campground sits in a remote pocket of the South Warner Mountains on Modoc National Forest land east of Likely, California, accessed via Forest Service Road 64 (the Jess Valley Road) roughly a 17-mile drive into the range. The lake itself was created by a massive ancient landslide and is notable for its deep blue color and very cold water fed by several mountain streams; the campground occupies a lower bench of the mountains with surrounding ridges dotted with ponderosa and Jeffrey pines, incense cedar and aspen.
