Camping at Ellery Creek near Lakehead

Public campground · Lakehead · 19 campsites

A forested campground near trout fishing, and hiking. Most campsites have no hookups, and RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

Practical comforts at Ellery Creek are straightforward: each site has a paved parking spur, a tent pad, a picnic table, a food locker, and a fire ring with grill, and there are two sets of vault toilets and water spigots scattered through the campground. There are no showers or electrical/water hookups, and no on-site store (the nearest supplies are about 21 miles away in Lakehead), so come prepared.

“The only problem was that the bear locker could not be locked, as the key was broken.”

Ted N 4 · Aug 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Perfect location close to the arm of the lake. Campground was well maintained. Found out after there are caves nearby that we plan to check out next time. Just an FYI the Ellery Creek sign off of Gilman Rd is missing so you can miss the turn into the campground. ”

How far ahead to book Ellery Creek

For June weekends, book about 182 days ahead. Three in four June Friday and Saturday arrivals were booked later than that, and half were booked 115 days or less before arrival. Past timing is guidance, not a guarantee of what is open now.

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (2,549 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
