Available Nov 13–15 · 2 nights13 sites open for every nightA forested campground near trout fishing, and hiking. Most campsites have no hookups, and RV fit varies by site.
Butte Lake Campground sits at about 6,100 feet in the northeastern corner of Lassen Volcanic National Park and feels more remote than the park's other campgrounds. The site is set among Ponderosa pines on soft volcanic soils, with several small ponds nearby and Butte Lake itself within easy walking distance; a broad black lava flow continues into the lake and creates rocky shores that are especially interesting from a kayak or canoe.

Length limits vary by campsite.

“Overcrowded. Incredibly loud. One bathroom. ”
“The bathrooms were closed for some reason, and I wasn’t notified ahead of time that they would be, which caused an inconvenience. The ranger checking the camp was rude.”
“Cinder cone trail takes off from right here. Which is grueling but incredibly rewarding. The campground is super quiet. I went early Oct and it was definitely mega cold at night. Probably close to freezing so just be prepared for that! ”

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.
Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (16,368 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
