Camping at Kaspian Campground near South Lake Tahoe

Public campground · South Lake Tahoe · 9 campsites

A forested campground near fishing, hiking, and mountain biking.

About this campground

This is a practical base for explorers of the Lake Tahoe west shore: multiuse bike trails that follow the western shore start near the campground, and the lake's sandy beaches across the road make swimming, paddling and other water sports easy to reach. The Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit offers a wide range of activities beyond the immediate site hiking, fishing, interpretive programs, visitor centers (including Taylor Creek), historic sites such as Tallac, and access to Desolation Wilderness with required permits so plan day trips accordingly.

“Campsite lines were a little hard to see in the dark.”

“We were sandwiched between two groups of way more than 6 people at each site and one group had a dog off leash the whole time. I wish the host would have intervened. ”

How far ahead to book Kaspian Campground

For July weekends, book about 179 days ahead. Three in four July Friday and Saturday arrivals were booked later than that, and half were booked 151 days or less before arrival. Past timing is guidance, not a guarantee of what is open now.

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (5,212 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
