Camping at Fallen Leaf Campground near South Lake Tahoe

Public campground · South Lake Tahoe · 193 campsites

A forested campground near fishing, hiking, and mountain biking. Most campsites have no hookups, and RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

Recreation at Fallen Leaf and in the surrounding Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit ranges from easy walks to technical alpine climbs. The Moraine Trail begins at the campground and is about a mile long; Glen Alpine and Mount Tallac trailheads are nearby for longer day hikes and access into the Desolation Wilderness, while the Pope-Baldwin bike path parallels Highway 89 for paved cycling along the south shore.

“The road from Hwy 89 to the entrance is terrible at best. Check in was easy this time. Previous times were 30 minutes or more. It's a pleasure having the dump station open again.”

Marshall H 4 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Awesome campsite with the meadow right behind my tent. Got to hear a bunch of coyotes at night and even saw some bears in the day. Very well maintained for how popular this place this and staff was more than friendly! ”

Kellin D 5 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Awesome campground. Quiet, wooded, beautiful real camping. Super clean restrooms. Fantastic location. Love this place”

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (108,736 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
