Camping at Difficult Campground near Aspen

Public campground · Aspen · 46 campsites · 1 group

A forested campground near trout fishing, hiking, and mountain biking. Most campsites have no hookups, and RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

The Roaring Fork is the campground's defining feature for recreation: it's deep, swift and clear, home to rainbow, brown, cutthroat and brook trout, and anglers will find long reaches of classic fly-fishing water. The river is also navigable by small craft over much of its length toward the Colorado River, so paddlers and rafters can plan short runs or downstream floats; nearby hiking trails provide quick access to higher country for day trips.

“No cellular, a few miles to town. A really wonderfully spaced-out campground, one of the best in Colorado for sure. ”

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (23,869 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
