4-mile Turquoise Lake Trail runs along the shoreline from May Queen to the dam, offering moderate hiking with wildflowers, wildlife viewing and visible remnants of old mines; the Timberline Lake trailhead is about a half mile up the road and leads two miles to a high alpine lake and access to the Colorado Trail. On the water, sailing, boating and canoeing are common and anglers commonly target mackinaw and rainbow trout.

Length limits vary by campsite.

“The campgrounds at May Queen were excellent. They are well maintained and spacious. The location was very beautiful.”
“We enjoyed our stay at may Queen. it is a very scenic and clean facility. We also appreciate that some of the sites at May Queen are first come sites. This enables us to re-locate to a first come site and extend our stay when we had to change our plans.”

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.
Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (4,849 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
