Camping at Cotton Hill near Ft. Gaines

Public campground · Ft. Gaines · 101 campsites

A forested campground near fishing, and hiking. RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

The campground is a practical base for lake-focused recreation: boating, swimming, fishing and general water sports are immediate draws on the lake's 85-mile stretch of the Chattahoochee River and its roughly 640 miles of shoreline. Anglers can expect largemouth and white bass, hybrids, crappie, channel catfish and bream; convenient shoreline spots and the nearby ramp make launching and bank fishing straightforward.

“Extremely satisfied with this RV park. It is well maintained and the staff was very friendly. Beautiful sunset views along the beach sites. Going back next month.”

David L 5 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“This was our first time visit. Our site was ok, but the gate guard was very rude and hateful and ruined what could have been a pleasant experience. We wouldn't come back again if the sites were free.”

Billy C 1 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Weather was perfect…. Our campsite was a great location with a view of the lake. Had the pleasure of watching the deer eat every morning and every evening. Looking forward to our next trip. Our pup enjoyed the dog park where she could run free. ”

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (33,839 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
