Camping at Lake Winfield Scott Recreation Area near Suches

Public campground · Suches · 31 campsites · 1 group

A forested campground near trout fishing, hiking, and mountain biking. Most campsites have no hookups, and RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

Outdoor opportunities here revolve around the 18-acre Lake Winfield Scott, which was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and forms the headwaters of Cooper Creek. The lake permits hand-powered boats and electric motors only; a boat ramp and an accessible fishing dock provide year-round access for anglers chasing trout, bass, catfish, perch and brim.

“We had a wonderful Weekend camping. The facilities were clean and close by. Everyone was friendly and the lake and path around was beautiful. Site 8 was secluded and large. Would definitely stay again!”

Rachel G 5 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (5,386 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
