Camping at Buffalo (Idaho) near Island Park

Public campground · Island Park · 48 campsites · 1 group

A forested campground near trout fishing, hiking, and mountain biking. Most campsites have no hookups, and RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

Buffalo Campground sits at about 6,200 feet on the banks of the Buffalo River, a spring-fed tributary that joins the Henry's Fork just a couple of miles east. The surrounding Island Park landscape is defined by ancient volcanic calderas, dense stands of lodgepole pine, broad grassy meadows that bloom with summer wildflowers, and abundant wildlife from moose and elk to black and grizzly bears, bald eagles and Sandhill cranes.

“Very nice campground. Clean and quiet. Only suggestion is that some of the spots are difficult to get into because the trees are so close to the pad. Would help if a few of them were taken out. The back-in spots are much easier for bigger trailers. We will be coming back!”

“It was quiet and woody. May back someday!”

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (12,044 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
