Camping at Point Campground near Stanley

Public campground · Stanley · 16 campsites

A forested campground near trout fishing, hiking, and mountain biking. Most campsites have no hookups, and RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

The lake is the main draw here: Redfish Lake supports boating, water skiing, canoeing, kayaking and fishing for rainbow trout and kokanee salmon, while a designated swimming beach and dock sit at the adjacent public day-use area and Sandy Beach Boat Ramp is about a mile across the water. Little Redfish Lake is also nearby for quieter paddling and fishing.

This campground is absolutely beautiful and close to the Lodge for food and the water for sports and trailheads for hiking! Unfortunately there is no policy for first come first serve at the campgrounds in this area. It is all at the discretion of each individual campground host and sometimes they give out conflicting information and downright incorrect information—so beware!

I spent a night in spot #1 close to the host site before backpacking through the Sawtooths. The whole process to walk up and get a good nights rest before hitting the trail was super easy, and I was even visited by an owl in the early morning which was pleasant. This campground is very clean and sits next to Orval Hansen Point Beach which is one of the most beautiful beaches I've experienced in Idaho.

The campsite itself was great!! I would definitely book again. What was not so great is a group moved into an abandoned campsite at 11 pm and from then until 2 a.m. were very loud and abnoxious. Also, our kids were in a different campsite and another neighbor who paid for her campsite let us know she was leaving and we could have her paid site if we wanted. We moved the kids to be next to us and the host charged us the full site fee. We ended up paying double. I didn't realize that is a thing.

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (6,186 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
