Camping at Coles Creek Campground near Carlyle

Public campground · Carlyle · 145 campsites

A forested campground near fishing, hiking, and mountain biking. RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

The lake itself shapes the recreational life here. Boat ramps and courtesy docks make launching simple, and Carlyle's 26,000 acres and steady winds have given it a reputation among sailboaters and hosts seasonal regattas; fishing is year-round with bluegill, crappie, channel and flathead catfish, white bass, largemouth bass, drum, carp and walleye available.

“Very happy with our stay. The grounds were well kept. Large sites, not on top of your neighbor. ”

Tammy S 5 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“First had 147 loop 5, but there was no shade. Changed to 137 loop 5. Much nicer. Large spot , and shady. Disappointed the beach was not open but took in some sun. Beach had a very bad smell.. But over all will be back. ”

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (30,960 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
