Camping at Blanchard Island Recreation Area near New Boston

Public campground · New Boston · 1 campsite

A forested campground. Most campsites have no hookups.

About this campground

Blanchard Island Recreation Area sits on the backwaters of the upper Mississippi (Pools 11 22), one of fifteen shorefront campgrounds that make up the river project. 5 miles on a gravel levee road off 176th Avenue west of New Boston, IL, and the approach helps explain why people come here for solitude, wildlife and river access rather than full-service comforts.

“I love this campground. It’s out of the way and not too many people visit which makes it quiet. Firewood is plentiful from fallen trees and logs that wash ashore from the river. ”

John T 4 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Nice, quiet, primitive campground on the backwaters of the Mississippi River.”
