Camping at Coon Creek (Il) near Shelbyville

Public campground · Shelbyville · 179 campsites

A forested campground near fishing, and hiking. RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

Coon Creek is a good base for the wider Lake Shelbyville experience: the lake's 11,100 acres of water and shore support boating (boat access is provided year-round), fishing for catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, muskie, walleye, white bass and bluegill, picnicking and birding. Hunting areas and wildlife refuges are a short drive away, and nearby attractions include Wolf Creek State Park, Woods Lake Waterfowl Refuge and the Okaw Bluff Wetlands Complex; lodging and an 18-hole golf course are available at the privately owned Eagle Creek Resort.

“Very cordial and helpful staff! Gorgeous setting on Lake Shelbyville. Well planned campground with good spacing, fairly level site. We were camped at site 185 at the end of a peninsula on the waterfront. Super clean restrooms. ”

For May weekends, book about 123 days ahead. Three in four May Friday and Saturday arrivals were booked later than that, and half were booked 57 days or less before arrival. Past timing is guidance, not a guarantee of what is open now.

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (26,892 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
