Camping at White Sandy Campground near Helena

Public campground · Helena · 25 campsites

A forested campground near fishing, hiking, and mountain biking. Most campsites have no hookups, and RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

Recreation opportunities begin at your site and extend into the larger Hauser Lake area: White Sandy has a sandy beach, picnic areas, small pavilions, trails that crisscross the lakeshore, and a reservable ramada/pavilion equipped with power and lights for group use. Beyond the campground are multiple fishing accesses, hunting and wildlife-viewing spots, boating and swimming, and an extensive network of mountain bike and hiking trails on public lands nearby; Helena is a short drive south for supplies, dining and cultural stops.

“The host couple was fantastic! We appreciated how promptly and professionally they handled our situation. They delivered great service and would recommend for a day use 100%!”

Kiley C 5 · Aug 2025 · Recreation.gov

“No campground host on site and group site campers had loud music and talking going til 2am; also had people hanging out in day parking lot by beach talking til we yelled out camper window at them. Definitely not a fisherman's campground - no early risers but us :(”

How far ahead to book White Sandy Campground

For July weekends, book about 168 days ahead. Three in four July Friday and Saturday arrivals were booked later than that, and half were booked 63 days or less before arrival. Past timing is guidance, not a guarantee of what is open now.

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (3,596 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
