Camping at St. Mary Campground near West Glacier

Public campground · West Glacier · 142 campsites · 1 group

A forested campground near fishing, hiking, and mountain biking. Most campsites have no hookups, and RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

The setting is open and high-elevation compared with many west-side trailheads: shade is limited to clumps of aspen that flash yellow in fall, while Singleshot, East Flattop and Red Eagle Mountains form a rugged skyline above the campsite. St.

“Great location, quiet and very reasonable rate. The scenery in this area was stunning ”

Carla H 4 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Some sites were open with views, others more private. Campground programs wee good. Good bathrooms ”

Laura B 4 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“We were there after the regular season and it was primitive only, so no water, no dump. Unfortunately The Going To The Sun Road was also closed due to an early storm so we weren’t able to do some of the hikes. The campground itself was very nice.”

How far ahead to book St. Mary Campground

For July weekends, book about 174 days ahead. Three in four July Friday and Saturday arrivals were booked later than that, and half were booked 86 days or less before arrival. Past timing is guidance, not a guarantee of what is open now.

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (64,019 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
