Camping at Ccc Campground (Nd) near Watford City

Public campground · Watford City · 22 campsites · 3 group

A forested campground near fishing, hiking, and mountain biking.

About this campground

The campground is a good base for long and short excursions: the Maah Daah Hey Trail threads through the area (about 150 miles in total) and connects here via the Sunset Loop and an 11-mile loop to the Long X Trail, offering dramatic badlands and prairie views. You'll likely see pronghorn, mule and white-tailed deer, and occasionally bighorn sheep; spring and summer are especially productive for birding and plant enthusiasts.

“A good short-term stopover but the road in is very rough washboard dirt for about ¾ mile...otherwise OK.”

CRAIG P 3 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Newly renovated and relatively quiet campground, nice and clean facilities, electric plugins at all sites, optimally located at a trailhead as well as next to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, saw northern lights several nights. Definitely my favorite campground in the area!”

Lucas G 5 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Very quiet campground. Clean pit toilets. Price is very reasonable with electricity. ”

How far ahead to book Ccc Campground (Nd)

For August weekends, book about 91 days ahead. Three in four August Friday and Saturday arrivals were booked later than that, and half were booked 55 days or less before arrival. Past timing is guidance, not a guarantee of what is open now.

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (883 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
