The campground is a practical base for hiking, wildlife viewing and scenic drives through the Jemez Ranger District, with off-road vehicle routes and an extensive network of hiking and mountain bike trails in the surrounding forest. For a wider view of the landscape, Cerro Pelado Scenic Overlook sits about 11 miles from the campground; the Jemez Pueblo and Walatowa Visitor Center offering cultural exhibits, shopping and dining are also about 11 miles away, while the town of Ponderosa (with a local winery tasting room) is roughly 5 miles southwest via Forest Road 10.
