Camping at Burns Run East near Cartwright

Public campground · Cartwright · 47 campsites

A forested campground near fishing, and hiking. RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

The setting is well suited to active outdoor plans: Lake Texoma is famed as a strong striped bass fishery one of the few reservoirs where stripers reproduce naturally and anglers also target largemouth and smallmouth bass, white bass, crappie and several catfish species. The Corps-maintained Cross Timbers hiking trail follows rocky ledges and blackjack woodland for 14 miles above the lake, and roughly 40 miles of equestrian trails loop through the surrounding country for riders.

“Very nice & clean rv spaces. Area is very quiet & safe.”

Marcia H 5 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“If 14 days is the limit for your stay in the park then I’m wondering why there are a number of campers that are there for longer periods. No one seems to have an answer for this ”

How far ahead to book Burns Run East

For July weekends, book about 155 days ahead. Three in four July Friday and Saturday arrivals were booked later than that, and half were booked 47 days or less before arrival. Past timing is guidance, not a guarantee of what is open now.

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (18,766 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
