Camping at Snake Creek near Cookson

Public campground · Cookson · 109 campsites

A forested campground near trout fishing. RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

Snake Creek is one of the busiest campgrounds on Tenkiller Ferry Lake, sitting on the lake's western shoreline in the Cookson Hills about 15 miles northeast of Gore off Highway 100. The larger lake 12,500 acres with roughly 130 miles of shoreline fed by the Illinois River and Baron Fork gives Snake Creek its water-focused character: clear water with high visibility that attracts scuba divers, sheltered coves favored by sailors, and wide-open water for powerboating and water skiing.

“Showers one stall no drain cover or water, next stall standing water not draining and no hot water. Only one stall usable with no hot water. For the amount of money spent on camp site you think repairs should be made.”

Jennings O 3 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“The restrooms and the shower houses are in the need of a very good cleaning. Some shower drains were stopped up. Showers had spiders in them. The camp grounds were good. I will go back to Snake Creek. We don’t ready need the bath houses. ”

Harvey T 4 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Bug control was horrible. The amount of fire ants in the facility was the worst I have ever seen. ”

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (6,870 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
