Camping at Thielsen View Campground near Idleyld Park

Public campground · Idleyld Park · 61 campsites

A forested campground near trout fishing, hiking, and mountain biking. Most campsites have no hookups, and RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

Thielsen View is a strong base for anglers and day-hikers alike. Diamond Lake receives an annual stocking of 300,000 rainbow trout, and fishing from shore or by boat is one of the more popular pastimes; the campground's boat ramp makes launching easy for overnight visitors.

“Lots of reserved site were empty. I wish there was at least a small refund so people would cancel their reservation if they can't use it. Then it would free it up for others to enjoy. ”

Rachael L 4 · Sep 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Amazing camp ground experience! Being so close to the lake was wonderful and being 30 minutes away from Crater Lake was a huge plus. My fiancé and I are planning to stay there again. ”

Megan B 5 · Sep 2025 · Recreation.gov

“A great base for hiking Mt. Thielsen and Mt. Bailey as well as exploring Crator Lake. The campground is spacious with great views and shade. The only downside was the density of mosquitos.”

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (8,767 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
