Camping at Frissell Crossing Campground near Mckenzie Bridge

Public campground · Mckenzie Bridge · 11 campsites

A forested campground near fishing, hiking, and mountain biking. Most campsites have no hookups, and RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

Frissell Crossing Campground sits beside the South Fork of the McKenzie River, a small developed site originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934. The campground is reached from Highway 126 east of Blue River via Aufderheide Drive (Forest Service Road 19), then another stretch of forest road to the site; it lies at about 2,600 feet elevation and is set back from the main road so many campsites spread around an open meadow or down toward the creek.

“Quiet campground on the upper branch of the South Fork of the McKenzie. No loud or drunken campers. Clean restrooms. Fresh water from a hand pump well. Bear on the road about a mile away. No cell service and none for many miles.”

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (1,482 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
