Camping at Buckaloons

Public campground · 57 campsites · 1 group

A forested campground near trout fishing, hiking, and mountain biking. RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

Buckaloons Campground sits where the Allegheny River meets Brokenstraw Creek and Irvine Run in northwestern Pennsylvania, a low-lying river corridor ringed by mixed hardwoods and scattered old apple trees. The river here is part of the Allegheny Wild & Scenic River system the downstream start of a nearly 50-mile protected segment that threads past a string of islands (including the Allegheny Islands Wilderness) and a number of public boat launches so paddling and floating are major draws: the one-lane concrete boat ramp at Buckaloons gives quick access to calm, family-friendly water with little to no whitewater.

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (7,412 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
