Cranes Mill Park sits on a long peninsula along the southwestern shore of Canyon Lake, about sixteen miles northwest of New Braunfels and roughly midway between Austin and San Antonio. The lake itself created when Canyon Lake Dam was finished in the 1960s has a limestone bottom that gives the water its clear blue tone and ranges from an average depth near 40 feet to spots as deep as 130 feet.
