Camping at Platter Flats near Denison

Public campground · Denison · 64 campsites

A forested campground near fishing, and hiking. RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

The lake and surrounding public lands shape much of the experience here: Lake Texoma supports a wide range of activities (boating, fishing, water sports, hiking, horseback riding, wildlife viewing and more), and Platter Flats provides easy access to them. Anglers come for naturally reproducing striped bass as well as largemouth and smallmouth bass, white and hybrid striped bass, crappie and catfish; boaters and swimmers use the ramp and beaches while equestrians take to the 40 miles of trails ringed around the reservoir.

“It might be a little difficult to find if you don’t know the location but it was a beautiful area to stay in. It was very clean and peaceful.”

Eric L 5 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Good slots, clean and good access to the lake. Looking forward to checking out trails next time. The rednecks wouldn’t settle down and be quiet. but what do you do? Will go back later in season when its too cold for disrespectful folks. ”

How far ahead to book Platter Flats

For May weekends, book about 76 days ahead. Three in four May Friday and Saturday arrivals were booked later than that, and half were booked 22 days or less before arrival. Past timing is guidance, not a guarantee of what is open now.

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (13,425 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
