Camping at Buckhorn Creek near Jefferson

Public campground · Jefferson · 94 campsites

A forested campground near fishing, and hiking. RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

Buckhorn Creek Campground sits on the shoreline of Lake O' the Pines in the piney woods of northeast Texas, in the Ark-La-Tex region near Arkansas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. The reservoir here created by Ferrell's Bridge Dam on Big Cypress Bayou stretches across five counties and offers broad water-based recreation: a boat ramp and courtesy dock put you on the 18,700 acres of lake for boating, water sports, and fishing for largemouth, spotted and white bass, crappie, catfish and sunfish; bank-fishing spots and the area below the dam on Big Cypress Bayou are popular for anglers who prefer to stay shore-side.

“not enough amps on electric to run electric grill. 15 amps way to small”

“Site was very clean. Bathrooms were clean as well. Would definitely recommend.”

David L 5 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“One of the best state parks I have used. Great lake views, paved streets, really nice paved parking pads, not crowded, treed lots. I wish I had more days to stay.”

For May weekends, book about 64 days ahead. Three in four May Friday and Saturday arrivals were booked later than that, and half were booked 13 days or less before arrival. Past timing is guidance, not a guarantee of what is open now.

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (28,134 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
