Camping at Bowery Creek near Loa

Public campground · Loa · 30 campsites · 11 group

A forested campground near trout fishing, hiking, and mountain biking. Most campsites have no hookups, and RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

The lake is the main draw: Fish Lake is Utah's largest natural mountain lake at 2,500 acres and is well known for large Mackinaw (lake) trout in the 20 40 pound range, along with rainbow trout and splake boating, canoeing, swimming and scuba diving are common. Trails begin right from the campground: the 5-mile Pelican Canyon Trail climbs through meadows and dense spruce, pine and aspen up to the 11,633-foot Fish Lake Hightop, while the Lakeshore National Recreation Trail follows the eastern side of the lake and gains roughly 900 feet for broad water views.

“The hosts were probably the best thing about it. There was no place besides the driveway to put our tent. ”

“The campground hosts at Bowery Creek are so friendly. They are on site all the time and keep things cleaned up. ”

How far ahead to book Bowery Creek

For July weekends, book about 167 days ahead. Three in four July Friday and Saturday arrivals were booked later than that, and half were booked 104 days or less before arrival. Past timing is guidance, not a guarantee of what is open now.

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (3,735 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
