Outdoor access is straightforward from Highway 8: the site is reached by turning onto Forest Road 2163 north of Laona/Armstrong Creek and continuing several miles into the National Forest. 5-mile bike trail that follows an old Lake 9 railroad grade provide easy day-use options for families and solo visitors; canoeing, kayaking and fishing are common from the boat landings.

“They advertise a rail trails bike trail and a hiking trail around the lake, reason for the reservation. Unfortunately both were so over grown you couldn't use either one, very disappointed. ”
“Absolutely beautiful campground! Pit toilets smelled better than most public restrooms. Grounds were well kept, park was quiet and lake was beautiful”

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.
Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (2,142 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
