Camping at Spruce Knob Lake near Riverton

Public campground · Riverton · 42 campsites

A forested campground near trout fishing, hiking, and mountain biking. Most campsites have no hookups, and RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

Perched on a wooded ridge in Monongahela National Forest and looking down toward the 25-acre Spruce Knob Lake, Spruce Knob Lake Campground sits under a hardwood canopy with views east to 4,863-foot Spruce Knob. The summit's stone-and-steel observation tower is a short drive or hike away and gives 360-degree panoramas across the highlands; nearer the campground, one-sided red spruce, low blueberry and huckleberry cover the rocky ridgelines where frequent winds and cold fogs shape the vegetation.

“My family and I come here at least every other year on Columbus Day weekend since they were small children. Now they are in their 40s and with two small grandsons (8 & 10) we took a trip this year for old times sake and loved it😊”

“Beautiful place, view of the stars in the early morning is amazing! Bathrooms could be cleaner”

kaeley f 4 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Love the isolation of location. Staff on site was very accommodating and pleasant to deal with. Have camped here many times thru the years. One of my favorite sites in United States. Thanks for maintaining this campground to a high standard. ”

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (5,194 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
