Camping at Battle Run near Summersville

Public campground · Summersville · 114 campsites

A forested campground near trout fishing, hiking, and mountain biking. RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

Battle Run sits on the southern edge of Summersville Lake, the state's largest reservoir, where sheer sandstone cliffs and quiet coves frame roughly 2,790 acres of water and about 60 miles of shoreline. The lake's clear water draws boaters, water-skiers, swimmers and scuba divers, while anglers head for large- and smallmouth bass, walleye, panfish and catfish; trout are stocked below the dam each spring and fall.

“Thanks to the staff and volunteers. We stayed twice this year during Gauley season! Easy check in . The RV folks camping there were quiet and good neighbors to us tent campers.”

For July weekends, book about 181 days ahead. Three in four July Friday and Saturday arrivals were booked later than that, and half were booked 143 days or less before arrival. Past timing is guidance, not a guarantee of what is open now.

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (32,652 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
