Camping at Firehole Canyon Campground near Ashley

Public campground · Ashley · 36 campsites

A forested campground near fishing, and mountain biking. Most campsites have no hookups, and RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

Firehole Canyon Campground sits on the far northeastern shore of Flaming Gorge Reservoir within the Flaming Gorge Recreation Area of Ashley National Forest, at about 6,300 feet in a high-desert landscape of sagebrush and scattered Russian olive. The site's location puts it squarely by the water: a small beach and an adjacent boat ramp make launching for boating, canoeing, water skiing, or a shore lunch straightforward, and anglers will find easy access for reservoir fishing from both shore and boat.

“Beautiful location! Level site with table and covered area ”

Vicki S 5 · Sep 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Beautiful view, clean bathrooms, covered shelters at each campground. Do be aware that each campsite is a double, so you may be very close to another group. ”

Ali P 5 · Aug 2025 · Recreation.gov

“The view was amazing. The sites were very small with no internet or connectivity, but we enjoyed our short stay. ”

How far ahead to book Firehole Canyon Campground

For June weekends, book about 111 days ahead. Three in four June Friday and Saturday arrivals were booked later than that, and half were booked 41 days or less before arrival. Past timing is guidance, not a guarantee of what is open now.

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (2,924 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
