Camping at Oak Knoll Campground near Valley Springs

Public campground · Valley Springs · 49 campsites

A forested campground near fishing, hiking, and mountain biking. Most campsites have no hookups, and RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

Oak Knoll Campground sits on the shores of New Hogan Lake, a 4,400-surface-acre reservoir created when New Hogan Dam was completed in 1964. The lake can reach about 50 miles of shoreline and stretches nearly eight miles upstream to the confluence of the Calaveras River forks, so water is the dominant feature here: boat ramps ring the lake and the wide surface is well suited to water skiing, wakeboarding, jet skiing and general boating.

“Quiet during the week and packed on the weekend. Too many bees to cook or eat outside!!”

“My stay was good until they canceled my reservation on me and then charged me anyways said they charged me to cancel crazy so they kept my money and made me leave 2 days early ”

“Nice camping site, no shade besides gazebo over the bench. Not too far from the water spigot and very close to the restroom. ”

For May weekends, book about 73 days ahead. Three in four May Friday and Saturday arrivals were booked later than that, and half were booked 25 days or less before arrival. Past timing is guidance, not a guarantee of what is open now.

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (6,932 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
