Recreation at Tailwater East ties you into the larger Coralville Lake project: anglers have easy river access for largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, walleye and catfish, while boaters and swimmers use the lake and river for water sports and water-skiing. Several trails thread the dam complex Squire Point, Woodpecker Trail, the Tailwater Riverwalk and the barrier-free Veterans Trail and the Devonian Fossil Gorge directly below the dam reveals a 375-million-year-old sea floor with 20 numbered discovery points and a cell-phone audio tour.

“Nice campground just outside of Iowa City. Perfect for attending a Hawkeyes football game. Just electric hookups on the east side. Nice flat camping spots most backed up to the water. Very lovely!”
“The facilities were very clean, the scenery was beautiful, and it was a great spot to gather around a campfire with family. ”

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.
Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (4,320 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
