Camping at Sutton Campground near Florence

Public campground · Florence · 77 campsites · 3 group

A forested campground near trout fishing, hiking, and mountain biking. Most campsites have no hookups, and RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

Recreation at Sutton centers on trail access and water activities: a network of trails leads toward Alder Dunes and Sutton Lake, passing wild berry patches, bright rhododendrons and small sand dune formations, and swimming is popular in nearby Sutton Creek. Sutton Lake, about two miles away, supports boating and fishing for yellow perch, largemouth bass, cutthroat trout and stocked rainbow trout; a public boat ramp is also roughly two miles from the campground.

“Very quiet and peaceful campground. Nice hiking trails through interesting coastal forest. No beach access. The campsites are nicely spaced. Some are level and some are difficult to use with an RV because they are quite a bit off level. ”

Tom D 3 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“We love Sutton campground! It’s the perfect base to go north to beaches or south to Florence for shopping and restaurants.”

How far ahead to book Sutton Campground

For July weekends, book about 134 days ahead. Three in four July Friday and Saturday arrivals were booked later than that, and half were booked 68 days or less before arrival. Past timing is guidance, not a guarantee of what is open now.

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (9,047 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
