Camping at Rock Creek Recreation Area (Cherokee National Forest, Tn) near Greeneville

Public campground · Greeneville · 31 campsites · 1 group

A forested campground near hiking, and mountain biking. RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

Rock Creek Recreation Area sits at about 2,300 feet on the eastern side of Erwin, Tennessee, where a small stream named Rock Creek runs beside a Depression-era concrete swimming pond and a Civilian Conservation Corps built bathhouse that still anchors the day-use area. The campground is threaded with short trails that climb into the adjacent Unaka Mountain Wilderness, and the Appalachian Trail crosses TN-395 just over three miles to the east at Indian Grave Gap, making the site a convenient base for day hikes to nearby balds, overlooks and the Forest Service Road #230 views.

“We really liked this campground, first time for us and we hope to get back. No park staff due to the shutdown but didn't detract from our experience.”

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (6,407 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
