Camping at Dana Peak near Harker Heights

Public campground · Harker Heights · 30 campsites

A forested campground near fishing, hiking, and mountain biking. RV fit varies by site.

About this campground

The peninsula setting makes Dana Peak a hub for water- and trail-based activities: boating, water sports and fishing are chief draws (the lake supports largemouth and smallmouth bass as well as channel catfish), and non-motorized rentals such as canoes and kayaks are available nearby for visitors without their own craft. Just outside the campground entrance the Dana Peak Trails open for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding; birders will note hawks, Great Blue herons, ducks, geese, songbirds, bobwhite quail, Rio Grande turkey and the occasional bald eagle.

“Cleanness,Shaded area, good administration staff and close to our home”

Evelyn C 5 · Jul 2025 · Recreation.gov

“We hosted our family reunion over Father’s Day weekend. Everyone had the BEST time. Dana Peak is very well maintained and the Pavilion made it easy to meet for meals. Not to mention the Park Rangers are friendly and accommodating. 👍 Highly Recommended 👍”

Jaime C 5 · Jun 2025 · Recreation.gov

“The pavilion was great! The area was just what we needed. Having the bathrooms and water close by was an awesome bonus!”

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (11,848 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
