“Campsite #2 was perfect for us in our Sprinter Van. It is very close to an amazing view of the gorge - a great cocktail & coffee overview. I do wish that the water was "on". The restroom was clean.”

Barbara M 4 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“We loved staying here! The views are stunning and close by, like literally just a few hundred feet from the campsite. Very quiet and clean. Great hiking located nearby with even more excellent views!”

Cody E 5 · Sep 2025 · Recreation.gov

“This was our second time returning to the same camping spot, and will be back again. Love the quietness and proximity to the canyon. As a person who loves photographing nature, this spot is incredible!”

How far ahead to book Red Canyon (Ashley National Forest)

For August weekends, book about 123 days ahead. Three in four August Friday and Saturday arrivals were booked later than that, and half were booked 66 days or less before arrival. Past timing is guidance, not a guarantee of what is open now.

Months with fewer than 30 reservations of that kind are left blank. Sites where nearly every booking was made the day of arrival (pay on arrival) are left out. Closed seasons, windows not yet released for booking, and currently unavailable nights are separate from this history.

Based on Recreation.gov reservations, FY2015–2025 (1,581 reservations in the years scored). Counts reservations made, not nights actually camped: cancellations aren't in the data, and nights a site was closed count as not booked. FY2020–21 (COVID) are left out of the scores.
